Reading Time - 5 minutes
Project Goal
To design a Luminary Artifact for an urban living environment and space that meets the needs and wants of a specific user group while considering the lived situation and context of that user. The Luminary Artifact must incorporate the IKEA HEMMA cord set and use a compatible LED light bulb with a diffuser.
Red [Colour]+ Zen [Gardens] + 30 [Minutes] = REN 30
Project Summary
The REN 30 is a smart LED nightstand lamp that helps users who have trouble falling asleep by exposing them to red light for 30 minutes, a similar process from professional light therapy, except they use UV light. It is made of white ABS plastic and red acrylic and has a curvilinear form inspired by sand gardens. The lamp has a touch interface, and the red light diffuses through the acrylic sheet to reveal a beautiful red gradient. After 30 minutes, the light dims down and turns off by itself due to the smart LED bulb. The REN 30 is suitable for students, those diagnosed with sleep disorders, people who travel overseas frequently, or anyone who has a lot on their mind during the night. The lamp is a great addition to the night routine as it creates a relaxing environment, and can make users feel refreshed after a night’s sleep with light. It is an affordable and convenient alternative to light therapy and can be easily incorporated into your routine.
